What a writeup!

This blog isn't where you look for the latest real estate happening, for sure.
Still, good to0 keep up what's going on.

It happens that this popped up on a search, and it's interesting how many long-time local names it drops.

Steamboat 2008-09 Season Starts NOV 26th

Here's how Old Town Steamboat Springs and the ski mountain looked on the afternoon of NOV 6th. As you can see, the mountain is already building a fine base of snow.

Let it DUMP! We already have some snow on the ground, in town and on the mountain. Forecasts are looking good for a bunch more this month, so that we'll have a couple of feet when the Steamboat Ski Area opens on NOV 26th.

We'll begin posting this season with a roundup of all the Steamboat Springs snowboard shops!
Several of them have moved because of all the construction going on in town and on the mountain (it's INSANE), and some of them are still right where you remember them, and ALL are READY for the season to begin!

Get your board tuned up, it's almost time!

ALSO, - ShayBoarder has been keeping busy going boarding around the state already, checking out the "one run" openings and demo days. She's a great blogger ... you should go visit her site and tell her we said hey!

Spring of a Record Year

It's always fun to talk with folks that have never been to Steamboat before, and hear their impressions of the snow that we get here. "The powder!" they say, "I've never been in anything like it!" Well folks, this has been a record year for snowfall in the 'Boat, and it's just lush as it can be.

Here's a few pix of the sunny conditions we've had for the last few days.

The Cardboard Classic is this weekend, it's always a real hoot. Unfortunately it means that our ski are is closing on Sunday 6 April :(

There will be concerts on SAT and SUN, and I'm really looking forward to Susan Tedeschi, she plays some of the hottest blues around, in my opinion.

I'm heading up the mountain right now, to get some more sunny day photos, and I'll post them this evening.

BoardTheBoat.com will shift over to other fun stuff to do for the Mud Season and the Summer.
If you enjoy stories and pictures of whitewater kayaking and rafting, four wheel jaunts up nutty mountain roads, and spending time in our beautiful National Forests, you'll want to keep checking back here to see what we've been up to lately.

Now you go out and get your riding time in for the day, if you are lucky enough to be in snow country!

Spring Powder Daze

We're up to something like 35 feet of snow so far this season, and it's lush. The base is 96 inches at the top of Storm Peak (altitude 10,377'), and around 76 inches at Thunderhead (top of gondola, altitude 9,070' [thanks to Kent at SkiCorp!]).

Here are the latest random pix, for your surfing pleasure:

They keep it moving in the Bashor Bowl Terrain Park, and the riders are always better than the photos that I can get of them...

This is one of our favorite runs on our mountain, called Westside. It's fairly steep, usually groomed every couple of nights (so no bumps), and it has the most incredible view of the valley.

The easiest way to Westside is from the back of Wally World (Sunshine Lift Line Drainage, way South, way RIGHT on the area map). After you have shred as much of the powder trees in Wally World as you can , take the South Peak lift over the ridge, and you'll get off at the top of Rendevous Saddle Ridge (South Peak Flats). Just go straight off the lift and keep going (not to the right) and you'll have your choice of: Rolex (mongo bumps) Westside (steep and clean), or the Broadway cat track, which actually has a very nice picnic table with a great view.

People look at me funny when I say that Westside is where I stop and say my prayers, but it really does have a spiritual effect on me. It's the place that reminds me how thankful we must be for all of this that we have and enjoy.

And speaking of thankful, here's about 45 mph of wind driving the snow crystals into your eyeholes. We all just turned our backs to the wind, grinned, and made more turns. What else can you do? Run inside and warm up? I don't think so...

We've had some typical Colorado "bluebird" days, with gorgeous blue skies and warm weather, and a few of those "changing conditions" days as well, with winds up to 45 mph.

When I took this photo, I thought of Shay, and whether or not she was freezing also, sametime.
The rider in this photo was a lot smarter than me, at the time. He was facing AWAY from the wind, and I was facing into the wind, but not for long. My goggles leak.

Let's wrap it with a few of the Winter Wonderland shots, just to prove that we do have a TON of good snow, and more on the way, no doubt!

It's TIME to get up here if you haven't yet this year. You'll find what you are looking for!

And please tell the riders you meet about BoardTheBoat.com, we're trying to get more web traffic and more good words from our readers.

And HEY, tell us what you think of this site, use our feedback, or comment on this story.

Random Shots In The Deep

We keep taking photos of the riders around us on the mountain. Enjoy! We're sitting on about 24 feet of snow so far this season!
Ride safe and watch out for those tree wells! You can enjoy the trees and still be safe, and help watch out for your fellow riders also. Best bet is to never go into the trees alone, and make a plan for how to handle the times when someone goes missing.
